Cougar Hazing Prevention Week is a dedicated event focused on raising awareness and preventing hazing through workshops, educational programs, and community involvement. Key activities include a pledge-signing table, the “Cougs Donut Haze” fundraiser, and a program discussing the importance of ending hazing and the impacts of Sam’s Law. These efforts aim to educate and unite the community against hazing. 

The Men’s Retreat includes two sophomores who are aspiring to enter chapter leadership within their respective Greek fraternity organizations. The primary focus of the retreat is on men’s mental health and leadership skills. Council officers from the Interfraternity and Multicultural Greek Councils facilitate conversations and share their experiences, providing valuable insights to help those aspiring to leadership roles learn and grow from their guidance. 

At the conclusion of the fall semester, the Greek councils host the annual Arete Awards, a formal dinner dedicated to recognizing exceptional Greek chapters and individuals within the community.

The term "Arete," derived from ancient Greek, signifies "virtue" or "excellence," encapsulating the awards' intent to honor notable achievements and contributions. The Arete Awards celebrate fraternities and sororities' accomplishments across several key areas, including intellectual development, membership advancement, global citizenship, leadership development, fostering positive relationships, and effective chapter management. The primary objective of these awards is to cultivate a culture of excellence, promote positive growth within the Greek community, and acknowledge the diligent efforts and dedication of its members and organizations. 

At the commencement of the spring semester, the Greek councils organize a retreat known as the Greek Leadership Camp (GLC). This retreat is attended by the President, Risk Chair, and New Member Educator from each fraternity and sorority, as these roles are among the most important within each chapter. GLC is designed to facilitate the transition of these individuals into their new leadership positions. During the retreat, participants engage in discussions on various topics, including the responsibilities and expectations associated with their chapters, the broader Greek community, and the university as a whole. Attendees collaboratively explore the intersections and overlaps of their roles both within their respective chapters and across the councils. The overarching aim of GLC is to identify strategies for enhancing and sustaining a stronger Greek community, addressing existing challenges, and leveraging opportunities for growth and improvement. 

Joint Council Retreat is a weekend retreat for the three Greek community councils. It gives them a dedicated time to foster relationships among each other and to collaborate on ways they want to improve the Greek community. The councils set long-term goals for each individual position as well as goals for each of the three councils.  Participants engage in team-building activities and workshops designed to enhance leadership skills. The retreat also provides a platform for open discussions on current challenges and opportunities within the Greek community. By the end of the weekend, attendees leave with a renewed sense of purpose and actionable plans for the future. 

Formal Recruitment for Panhellenic and IFC takes place before the first week of classes at WSU. It is an opportunity for each chapter to select members that they believe hold the same values and goals as their chapter holds. This helps to create high standards for the Greek community for building future leaders of the WSU community. Multicultural Greek Recruitment Week (MGRW) takes place alongside Formal Recruitment for Panhellenic and Interfraternity recruitment, that consists of various events hosted alongside culturally based departments on campus such as the African American Student Center, Chicanx/Latinx Student Center, Multicultural Student Services, etc... All these events lead up to the Yardshow, which takes place on the Todd Steps at the end of every MGRW. The Yardshow offers the opportunity for multicultural chapters to promote their organization while also participating in the long-storied tradition of strolling.  

The New Member Retreat is a special event designed specifically for new members of multicultural chapters who joined in the previous semester. This retreat serves as an opportunity for these new members to immerse themselves in the rich history and traditions of Fraternities and Sororities. Additionally, it provides a comprehensive understanding of the purpose and goals of the Multicultural Greek Council. Throughout the retreat, participants will engage in various activities and discussions that highlight the mission and historical significance of the Multicultural Greek Council, fostering a deeper connection and appreciation for their organization. This experience not only educates but also helps to build a sense of community and belonging among the new members.
